The Voice of the NecklaceThe Voice of the Necklace

Each strand of Mikimoto cultured pearls is a work of art born from the mystery of the sea. Creation of these strands requires incredible skill, judgment and craftsmanship. The journey begins with a rigorous selection process, culling the very best pearls. Only the top 5% of all the cultured pearls in the world meet our standards for quality.

The perfect Mikimoto pearl has high-quality nacre and a perfectly round shape. Once the best pearls have been selected, they are cleaned with specialized techniques and entrusted to the expert sorter. Each beautiful pearl is individually examined by northern, morning light, the day's most even illumination. The natural light reveals the "personality" of the pearl.

Mikimoto cultured pearls are sorted and resorted many times. Because no two pearls are exactly alike, sorting them is a demanding task that requires great expertise. Our experts assess each pearl by size, shape, color and luster, handling each pearl hundreds of times as they fulfill Mikimoto's strict matching requirements.

The pearl's outermost layer of nacre is like "skin". It should be multi-tonal and complex, yet have an overall consistency that is natural and fascinating. The sorter carefully matches pearls that share similar characteristics, searching for a unified tone that creates a perfect harmony.

Once sorted, the pearls are drilled with great care and precision. Talented Mikimoto artisans select enough perfectly matched gems to create a single necklace. Only then, using the finest silk thread, is the strand expertly hand-knotted. Individual knots between each pearl protect the gems from abrasion or loss.

A signature clasp and M-circle logo charm complete the design and are your assurance of genuine Mikimoto quality. The final result: impeccably matched strands, artfully assembled. Adorn yourself with Mikimoto, and let the gems of the sea whisper their mystery.
