Chocker
space
About 16”. The most popular length, suitable for both formal and casual occasions.



Princess
space
About 18”. Longer version of the choker.



Matinee
space
About 22”. The usual length for daytime wear.



Opera
space
About 30-32”. The most common length for formal wear–may consist of two strands.



Rope
space
About 40” or longer. There are a number of variations, including two strands, three strands, and knots.



Clasp
space
The metal piece that closes the necklace. The MIKIMOTO clasp is engraved with the MIKIMOTO trademark, an outline of an Akoya oyster with the letter M inside.



Knot
space
Knots are tied between each pearl in a necklace to keep the pearls from scattering, should the string break.

Single row ring
space
Several cut stones of the same size lined up next to each other without metal separating them.



Eternity ring
space
This type has gems of the same cut and size around the entire circumference of the ring to symbolize eternal unchanging feelings. Rings with only a half circle of stones are called 'half eternity' rings.



Pinky ring
space
A ring that is worn on the little finger.



Solitaire ring
space
A ring with only one stone mounted in it.

Designs that dangle below the earlobe.



Hoop type

A circular design, going from the front to the back of the earlobe.



Earclip

A metal fitting that holds the earring in place by pinching the earlobe.



Post

Earbacks

The metal fitting that takes in the post of a pierced earring.



Screw back posts

A screw-like fitting with a threaded post and an earback that turns onto the post to close.

Spring ring

A round-shaped lock located at one end of a chain. The chain is closed by inserting the tag inside the lock.



Chain tag

Located at the opposite end of the chain from the spring ring, it is inserted in the lock to close the chain.

Prong setting
space
A technique for setting jewels with small wire prongs bent over stones to hold them in place.



Bezel setting

A technique for setting jewels by surrounding them with a thin, flat piece of metal.



Channel setting
space
A technique for taking small cut stones and setting them between two strips of metal without any space between them.



Pavė setting
space
A setting technique that involves taking stones known as melee and lying them right up against one another like paving stones, held by “beads” of metal.



Mille grain
space
A technique for using a chisel to produce continuous fine granular relief patterns on the edge of the base metal.



Open work
space
A technique for creating a pattern by inserting openings with a jeweller's saw.



Matte finish
space
A technique for finishing the surface of a metal so that it does not give off any luster.
