Tourmaline
The origin of tourmaline is said to lie in the words “tura mali” which means “stone of many colors” in the Sinhala language of Sri Lanka. As the name suggests, tourmaline is known for its numerous color variations, including various hues, intensities, and luminosities. Some even appear polychromatic when held at certain angles.
Taking note of these characteristics, Mikimoto uses tourmaline to give expression to subtle tonalities within our designs. We are meticulous in selecting our tourmalines which showcase the beauty and uniqueness of the stone itself, as well as in our approach to the “cut” that brings out their colors and brilliancy.
